Disclaimer: The Magnavox Odyssey 2 / Philips Videopac design has been done, but it has not been tested. The Rev0 cartridge is schematic- and layout-complete and the firmware and software run in emulation, but no board has been built and nothing has run on a real Odyssey 2 or Videopac yet. We could use some help validating and testing the design: reviewing the schematic and layout, building Rev0 boards, and trying the firmware and software on real consoles. If you can help, please get in touch on the FujiNet Discord.
Status
The firmware and software for the Magnavox Odyssey 2 / Philips Videopac bring-up are working in emulation (a patched MAME and a patched o2em, against FujiNet-PC). The cartridge mailbox round-trips with a live FujiNet, and the console can mount a cartridge image over the network (K.C. Munchkin over TNFS) and boot it. Protocol 2 (APPBANK) serves images up to 63K, which is enough for whole games, and a console reset never replays an old reply. CONFIG is written and merged: it handles WiFi, hosts, a file browser, copying, info, and booting a game with a progress bar. Baking CONFIG into the cartridge firmware is still an open pull request, so until it lands the cartridge on master carries the simpler fujicfg browser. The Rev0 cartridge is fully designed but has not yet been built, so nothing has run on a real console yet.
Firmware
Current firmware can be pulled from https://github.com/FujiNetWIFI/fujinet-firmware
The cartridge is a new design: an RP2040-class chip that serves the 8048 cartridge bus in software, derived from the PicoPAC. The Odyssey 2 cartridge edge has no read strobe, so the console talks to the cartridge through a small register file, and reads replies back through a window in the cartridge’s program space at $F30. The console has only 192 bytes of RAM and the video chip shows at most 28 characters, so FujiNet programs are built as an APPBANK image: a fixed 1K at $400-$7FF plus up to 31 pages of 2K, carrying a FUJI claim at $F2C.
The RP2040 section of the firmware is in pico/o2/firmware. Build instructions in pico/o2/README.md
The ESP32S3 version of the firmware can be built with:
./build.sh -s fujiversal-o2
./build.sh -cbufm
The cartridge is a separate chip joined to the ESP32S3 by USB, so the ESP32S3 build does not carry the cartridge firmware; build it in pico/o2 with ./build-cart.sh. A build for the Rev0 board’s RP2354B is in an open pull request. The ESP32S3 pin map on master is provisional (the Freenove ESP32-S3 CAM pins). The first things to check with a scope on real hardware are the cartridge’s data-out timing against the 8048’s /PSEN fetch (about a microsecond), and the 5 V console levels into the RP2354B.
Hardware
Current PCB has been laid out by Thomas Cherryhomes in KiCad: https://github.com/FujiNetWIFI/fujinet-hardware/tree/master/Magnavox-Odyssey2/FujiNet-O2-Rev0
Rev0 is an all-in-one, 4-layer board, 63 x 85 mm, on the Videopac cartridge outline used by the PicoPAC and bwack’s USB cart, with 30 gold fingers on the edge (RP2354B, ESP32-S3, USB-C and microSD). The cartridge runs from the console’s 5 V, or from USB-C when it is plugged in, whichever is present first. case/FujiNet-O2-Shell.scad is a printed shell; its size is estimated, not measured on an original. The board is schematic- and layout-complete and packaged for JLCPCB, with every design check passing, but it has not yet been built. The edge pinout was checked against Dan Boris’s Odyssey 2 technical specs and three built, working Videopac carts.
There is no DIY option yet; until boards are built, the Odyssey 2 side can be tried in emulation. pico/o2/emu/apply-mame.sh adds the FujiNet cartridge to a MAME source tree (run it with -cartslot fujinet), and pico/o2/emu/apply.sh and pico/o2/run.sh do the same for o2em, against FujiNet-PC. Console BIOS dumps are not distributed; supply your own.

The Odyssey 2 programs are standalone 8048 assembly, built with Macroassembler AS; there is no fujinet-lib target for the Odyssey 2. These five have been merged. The lobby, NetCat and Texas Hold’em are written but not merged yet.
FujiNet Go
There is no FujiNet Go for the Odyssey 2 yet; use the patched MAME described under Hardware.
